Skill Level: Intermediate

Abbreviations:
K – Knit
SL – Slip
WS – Wrong Side
RS –  Right Side
WYIF – With Yarn in Front
WYIB – With Yarn in Back

Pattern

Cast on a multiple of 8 sts, plus 6
Row 1 (RS): Color A, knit.
Row 2 (WS): Color A, knit.
Row 3: Color B, K2, *SL2 wyib, K6; rep from * to last 4 sts, SL2 wyib, K2.
Row 4: Color B, P2, *SL2 wyif, P6; rep from * to last 4 sts, SL2 wyif, P2.
Rows 5 to 8: Rep Rows 3 and 4 twice more,
Row 9: Color A: knit.
Row 10: Color A: knit.
Row 11: Color B, K6, *SL2 wyib, K6; rep from * to end.
Row 12: Color B, P6, *SL2 wyif, P6; rep from * to end.
Rows 13 to 16: Rep Rows 11 and 12 twice more.
Rep Rows 1 - 16.
 

Alternative Honeycomb

This will give you a flat Color A (Grey in picture) instead of raised honeycombs.  It is personal preference as to which looks better.  It’s not any more difficult then the first pattern.  It is all about the aesthetics of what you want you project to look like.
Cast on a multiple of 8 sts, plus 6
Row 1 (RS): Color A, knit.
Row 2 (WS): Color A, Purl.
Row 3: Color B, K2, *SL2 wyib, K6; rep from * to last 4 sts, SL2 wyib, K2.
Row 4: Color B, P2, *SL2 wyif, P6; rep from * to last 4 sts, SL2 wyif, P2.
Rows 5 to 8: Rep Rows 3 and 4 twice more,
Row 9: Color A: knit.
Row 10: Color A: purl.
Row 11: Color B, K6, *SL2 wyib, K6; rep from * to end.
Row 12: Color B, P6, *SL2 wyif, P6; rep from * to end.
